Did anyone else relate to the character “Anxiety” in the movie “Inside Out 2?” I certainly did!

Title of image: Explaining to a Friend that you Have Rheumatoid Arthritis: Words over each of the 6 bags: Bracing myself for unsolicited advice, fear they won’t “get it,” wanting to explain that it’s serious but not wanting to freak them out, hope that they’ll understand, pressure to explain it’s not “just” arthritis, wanting to say it’s going to be OK but not really being sure if it is

Anxiety can be Helpful or Hurtful

As someone who lives with both chronic illness and generalized anxiety disorder, I really felt “seen” by the portrayal of anxiety. The movie showed that anxiety can sometimes be a functional or protective emotion (for example, making us think through multiple outcomes to make good decisions). However, when it’s taken to the extreme, it can hurt us and make it difficult to function in our lives.

How Anxiety relates to Chronic Illness for me

One of the most humorous moments to me was when Anxiety shows up with 6 suitcases of “baggage” – I’ve been seeing some other creators share their takes on what could be within those suitcases, so today I’m sharing two different takes on the anxious thoughts one might have related to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
