Come with me to get tear duct plugs (“punctal plugs”) for dry eyes!
Did you know that your tear ducts are where the tears flow INTO, not out of?
Your tears come out of your lacrimal glands above your eyelid, and they drain into the tear ducts. Tear duct plugs (“punctal plugs”) are a quick, affordable, easy way to increase the moisture in your eyes, by literally…plugging one of the drains (ducts) that they flow into! (Not pictured: my opthamologist gave me numbing drops first so I don’t feel it!)
I get dissolvable ones placed every 6 months for dry eyes from rheumatoid arthritis (and suspected Sjogren’s disease).
When my ophthalmologist first told me about this option for dry eyes, I was flabbergasted by how simple it is – I would love to have been in the room with the ophthalmologist who first suggested this technique! (“It’s so simple…it just might work!”)
Have you tried this, or would you try it if it was available to you? Let me know in the comments, and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have!
