What's it like to live with rheumatoid arthritis for 21 years? Cheryl shares her story.

This World Arthritis Day, I’m sharing my condensed life story; what it was like for me to live 21 years without rheumatoid arthritis, and then 22 years with it. Sharing our arthritis patient stories is so important to help others feel less alone!

This year I’m feeling immensely grateful for the greater arthritis and chronic illness community I’ve connected with. I’m sending so much love to all the other inflammatory / autoimmune arthritis advocates, educators, patient experts and health professionals who help inspire newly diagnosed patients to see that you CAN live a full, vibrant life WITH arthritis, and that you’re not alone.

I’m also grateful to all the past participants of Rheum to THRIVE, who’ve DONE the WORK to build a toolbox to thrive with your condition, and who’ve offered support to others in the support groups!

I’m also feeling grateful to be celebrating 5 years of “Arthritis Life” as a formal entity – it’s certainly grown from my initial idea of a YouTube “talk show!”

I’m so proud to elevate patient stories through the Arthritis Life Poscast, and to have created the first comprehensive, evidence based self-management program specifically for people with inflammatory arthritis: Rheum to THRIVE. The self paced course is available year round, and the support programs are available twice a year (September and February).

With love and gratitude this World Arthritis Day 2024 – Cheryl
